With the solution Auction for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 / 2013 you can easily conduct auctions in SharePoint. By simply installing the solution and activating one feature the users have access to an auction list in which they can immediately add new items. In addition, the solution provides a list to manage images, documents and bids.

The solution provides a SharePoint list with all the columns and features for an auction platform. The list includes columns for images, title, short description, offers, highest bid, time remaining and a button to bid. By clicking the “Add New Item” or through the Ribbon menu the user can start a new auction.

Selecting an auction element leads to a new dialogue with all the important information. It displays an image, a headline with a short description, the current highest bid, the time remaining and the current bids. In addition, the users will also see a long detailed description, additional pictures and documents so they can get detailed information about the auction.

The users can then enter a new bid for this auction.

The users can also update their auction or create a new auction any time. By pressing the New or Edit button they see the edit screen of the auction item. The users can select an image and enter additional information such as a name, a description and the minimum bid. The auction has to be finalized with an end date and a description.

If the user changes the data during the auction, you can always check the status of the auction in versioning of the element. Furthermore, the user receives a clearly visible notification with a red warning on the top of the dialog.

If someone bids on the auction item, the initiator and the auction manager can inspect the bids in the dialog box of the element.

The red outlined area in this dialog is displayed only for authorized users.

The auction manager can easily be added to the newly created SharePoint group “Auction Manager”. By adding users in this group, they are allowed to modify or delete the sale of other users. In addition, the auction manager can view and delete bids if necessary.

All auction managers or owners of the site or site collection can change settings for the auction in the Site Settings. New configuration options will become available after the activation of the Auction feature under Site Collection features.

Under the menu item “Auction” the email templates for the auction platform can now be configured. Placeholders such as “{OfferAuction}” have been pre-installed so that administrators can customize the templates to match the corporate standard.

The following email templates are available:

  • Email to auction initiator after the auction
  • Email to highest bidder after the auction
  • Email to initiator after the auction in case of no bids

Of course, the solution is designed to be maintained easily. Therefore the auction manager is allowed to view and modify bids and you can undo these changes.
